Bridge End Garden was created around 1840 by. Francis Gibson designed the Garden as a Francis Gibson, a local Quaker businessman who also built the Fry Art Gallery. Francis' daughter Elizabeth married Lewis Fry of Bristol and in 1918 the Fry family leased the Garden to the local council. It has been open to the public ever since.

Bridge End Garden is a real jewel and an environment of great charm on the north side of Saffron Walden. Careful restoration has replicated gardening techniques and designs typical of the Victorian era and brought the garden back to its full splendour. These gardens are absolutely lovely and are a series of 'compartments' including a sunken Dutch Garden, a Walled Garden and a Hedge Maze which you can get lost in. Don't miss them if you come to Saffron Walden. They are open all the time but the Walled Garden & the Maze do get locked up at the end of the day and if you visit on a winter weekend.
