Se trata de la iglesia de un antiguo monasterio benedictino cuyos orígenes se remonta al XI. La primera mención documental se remonta a 1095 referida una donación de los Condes de Traba. Fue destruido por normandos en 1105 y más tarde por sarracenos en 1115; quedando parcialmente destruido.
