At only 10" tall, Jerry Rehfield is a nearly perfect compact Cattleya. Chocolate Drop (C. guttata (leopoldii) x C. aurantiaca) has many beautifully-arranged waxy red flowers on a strong stem. Breeding Chocolate Drop with large standard reds and purples gives excellent results, including well-known crosses like Cherry Suisse, Mem.

The old school growers recognize this as Cattleya Chocolate Drop 'Kodama'. However, when Cattleya aurantiaca was reclassified as Guarianthe aurantiaca all the resulting cattleya x guarianthe hybrids were reclassified as Cattlianthe (ctt). It is a hybrid of Cattleya guttata x Cattleya aurantiaca. Flowers are about 3" across. The petals have shades of dark red and burgundy while the throat.

Cattlianthe Chocolate Drop is a hybrid orchid of Cattleya guttata and Cattleya aurantiaca. The name apparently comes from the appearance of the unopened flower buds which someone thought looked like drops of chocolate. The flowers are an intense burgundy chocolaty red with a lighter colored lip. Very striking. They have a very nice strong fragrance. Highly waxy flowers. Easy growing.
