Hanging Rock State Park has a two-loop family campground that offers 73 sites. Each site accommodates up to two tents and has a tent pad, picnic table and grill. Drinking water and bathhouses with hot showers are at the center of each loop. One campsite is wheelchair accessible. Group camping is also available.

In 1936, the Stokes County Committee for Hanging Rock and the Winston-Salem Foundation donated 3,096 acres of land to the state of North Carolina for the purpose of establishing a state park. Many facilities in the park were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) between 1935 and 1942. A concrete and earthen dam completed in 1938.

Starting at the Visitor Center parking lot, we made our way onto Hanging Rock Trail and began the climb to the top. If you looked straight up at the sky, you could see the peak of the trail.
